Title: "Something Borrowed"

Author: Emily Giffin

Best Line:Page 60,"An emaciated Asian women wearing leather pants and way to much lip liner taps Marcus on the arm, and tells him that our table is ready. We carry our drinks, following her to the restaurant beyond the bar. As we sit, she hands us two oversized menus, and a separate wine list.
I chose this passage because when I read this, I was really able to visual this seen, and Emily Griffin used vivid details.

Summary: Manhattan resident, Rachel White, also an attorney, feels her biological clock is ticking a little too fast, and she needs to find a husband as soon as possible. Lo and behold, on the eve of her ever-dreaded thirtieth birthday, she finds Mr. Right. Only, Mr. Right happens to be her best friend, Darcy's fiance. Being the made of honor, Rachel battles between sucking it up and going along with all the wedding plans, and telling her best friend about her affair. Will Rachel fallow through or will she end up single forever?

When Darcy catches Dex, her fiance at Rachel's apartment, she is livid. But the next day, when she comes back to make peace with Rachel, she reveals a secret of her own. Throughout the engagement, Darcy has been sleeping with Dex's best friend Marcus. Not only that, but she is also pregnant with his baby, and is planning to keep it.

Rating & opinion: I give this book a 4 because it was a good light summer read with a great twist.

Title: "Beyond Belief"

Author: Josh Hamilton with Tim Keown

Best Line: "If I ever get asked to be in the Home Run Derby, I'm going to ask you to throw to me." (25).

I chose this line as the best line because it shows how touching and humble Josh Hamilton is. Years before he participated in his first Home Run Derby, he told his coach, Clay Council, that if he ever was to participate in the Home Run Derby, he wanted him to pitch to him. He never knew how many different coaches he would play for before making history at the Derby. I find it remarkable that Hamilton cares so much about this man because he stuck with his promise and Clay Council pitched to Josh Hamilton in the 2008 Home Run Derby.

Summary: Current Texas Rangers outfielder, Josh Hamilton, has a remarkable story behind him. His dream as a boy was to become a professional baseball player and sure enough, he did. It didn't come easy to Hamilton because he made a few stops along the way of experiencing his dream. Hamilton became a drug and alcohol addict and also has 26 tattoos. It is never easy for someone to overcome an addiction but this season, Hamilton turned himself around and put up record statistics and was a starter for the American League in the All-Star Game. The story mainly tells readers about his life, and his young life struggles. The message is that anything is possible if you make an effort. When someone says that they can't overcome something, consider it a lie because Hamilton overcame one of the most difficult experiences in his life, and has never been more successful in his life.

Rating and Opinion: If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would. I have never enjoyed reading and I can't think of a time where I couldn't "put a book down" but I couldn't put this one down. Hamilton used a lot of foreshadowing because I was suspicious that something was going to happen on each page.

Title: Nineteen Minutes

Author: Jodi Picoult

Best Line: "In nineteen minutes, you can mow the front lawn, color your hair, watch a third of a hockey game. Nineteen minutes is how long it took the Tennessee Titans to sell out of tickets to the play-offs...in nineteen minutes, you can stop the world, or you can just jump off it. In nineteen minutes, you can get revenge." (6)

I chose this passage because it elaborates on how in the amount of time you do something daily, someone can do something that will change their life forever. Since it is the opening statement in the book, it sets the stage for a really interesting plot while not giving too much away about the story. It also makes me realize that it only takes one thing to affect an entire population, no act goes unnoticed.

Summary: The story starts off with main character Josie Cormier waking up with her head in a textbook, like most teenagers after pulling an all-nighter. She proceeds about her normal morning routine, meeting her boyfriend at school, and then goes to third period. Before she gets out of the cafeteria shots are fired from a gun being held by other main character, Peter Houghton (who has been bullied his whole life), and he continues to rampage throughout the school in a massive school shooting. The rest of the book focuses on the court case, and the forensic scientist's jobs to figure out what really happened that day.

Most interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book: The trial is always Picoult's strongest point in her books, and it is in this case as well. It is so interesting and is truly real because the kids they are dealing with are around the same ages as I am, and dealing with the same things all teenagers do.

Rating & opinion: I would definitely give this book a 5 because it had an amazing twist at the end and was incredibly intriguing throughout the entire story.

Title: Dogland

Author: Will Shetterly

Best Line: “It was a dream, then a place, then a memory.”(1).

I chose this line because as a reader it made me want to read on and find out what this place was.

Summary: This book takes place in 1959 and is about a family who has moved to Latchahie County, Florida. Luke Nix (the father) has built Dogland, which is a combination of a restaurant, motel, and zoo. Dog land is very successful when it first opens, however there is a problem. Luke Nix hires Ethorne Hawkins who is an African American man. The rest of the book is about how Luke Nix and his family is treated by people who live in Florida because they have an African American working for them and getting paid.

Most interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book: I think this book is very interesting because it is in the point of view of a young boy named Digger. The book shows what Digger and his family go through and what they faced because of hiring an African American to work at Dogland.

Rating and opinion: I would give this book 4 stars because it was very interesting and many events were unexpected. Also it gives a perspective of racism in the mid nineteen hundreds.

Title: The Lone Survivor

Author: Marcus Luttrell

Best Line: (Opening lines) This was payback time for the World Trade Center. We were coming after the guys who did it. If not the actual guys, then their blood brothers, the lunatics who still wished us dead and might try it again.

Summary: This is an amazing book about a Navy SEAL who was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005. It was only him and his 3 teammates against the Taliban. After only one firefight, all of Luttrell's friends had been shot down and he was the only one left. Day after day and wound after wound, Marcus Luttrell fought and hid from the Taliban. The SEALs back home and the media presumed him dead. Though, Luttrell kept fighting and made it back alive to recount this amazing story.

Most interesting or thoughtprovoking aspect of the book: This book definitely tells one to not give up. In this book, one soldier kept fighting against a whole army of Islamic extremists so he could come back home and tell his teammate's families that they loved them. Giving up was not an option for Luttrell because if he did, he'd be dead. I think Marcus Luttrell is telling the reader that though it may not be a deadly situation like his, one can still fight for victory. Though it may be hard, refusing to give up makes one stronger and keeps them fighting alive.

Rating & opinion: I'd strongly give this book a 5. This is a true story survival account from a sole American soldier living through the most brutal conditions and against the most brutal enimies. He is a true soldier and this book isn't one to pass by.

Reviewer and favorites: Nick Glavin. I also like "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen and "The Bourne Ultimatum" by Robert Ludlum.

Title: "Rat Bastard; The Story of South Boston's Most Honorable Irish Mobster”

Author: John "Red" Shea

Best Line: Page 277:

“ When I think about Judgment Day, I get emotional. It’s a heavy thing. But what I did I did, and there’s no erasing it. Nothing I do from here on out is going to change it . I can write an honest book, be an honest man, help little old ladies cross the street. But what’s done is done. Theres no escaping that. Whatever it is, I’ll do my time, even if it’s for an eternity.”

I liked this passage, because I felt it really illustrated Shea’s main thoughts on his life and the actions he’s done, and it gives the reader an honest and true reflection of Shea himself.

Summary: “Rat Bastard”, is written by and about John “Red” Shea, a member of the Winter Hill Gang and Whitey Bugler’s one time closest associate. Whitey Bugler, the leader of the one time Winter Hill Gang, was the most famous and successful mob leader in Massachusetts, and is currently number two on the U.S Most Wanted List, only behind Osama Bin Laden. Shea was Whitey Buglers top associate and began running his entire underground drug business by age 20. In the book John Shea, explains his secretive and exciting life through his personal stories and experiences, including smuggling drugs through Logan Airport, and private encounters within the gang and with Whitey Bugler. Shear was arrested in 1990,served 12 years in jail, and refused to “rat out” any of his fellow gang members, in an act of respect.

Most interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book:

In my opinion the most interesting aspect of “Rat Bastard” is the fact that it uncovers so many hidden secrets and unknown events. Often time’s illegal things are never discussed in published books, but “Rat Bastard” defy’s this. When I read the book, it was really intriguing because, Shea gave spefics of many things that had happened in his life, that were illegal or at the time huge secrets. Shear’s book is interesting because it gives the reader a sense of curiosity and reveals secrets to the reader.

Rating: 4

I thought the book was very interesting and exciting but it apple’s to a certain audience. The book contains a lot of profanity, violence, and sex, so some people might not like it for that. But overall I would strongly recommend this book.

Also if you have seen the movie, “The Departed”, and enjoyed it, then you would really like this book because, a lot of the facts in the Departed are based of this story.

Title: Brett McCarthy: Work in Progress

Author: Maria Padian

Best Line: "Bad news travels fast and good news is a well-kept secret" Page 59.

Summary: Brett McCarthy is in 8th grade. This book is about her "redefinition" as everything in her life changes. When she is accused of making a prank phone call everything in her life is turned upside-down. Her friends abandon her and tragedy hits her family

Most interesting aspect of the book: Every chapter is labeled by a seemingly random word. When the word is used in the chapter, Brett, as the narrator, defines it. Though it is not very important to the plot of the book it is a very interesting aspect of the writing.

Rating and Opinion: I would give this book a 3 because although it was interesting to read it did not draw me in as a reader.

Title: Black and Blue

Author: Anna Quindlen

Best Line: "There was no one who needed more to speak the words he couldn't say, to look at the things he couldn't see. Someday... I'd do that for him, so that he could give up the secret, once and for all, so that he could say that his father had lied to him, and his mother, too, all those mornings when they acted as though everything was all right. Fine. Fine. But not now. That was Robert Benedetto's story. And for now, no matter how bad it was for us both, Robert had to be Robert Crenshaw."

This passage enhances Mrs. Crenshaw's will to do what is best for her son. She completely transformed her life in order to protect and provide a safer environment for her son. Furthermore, this passage brings forth the internal struggle of Robert. It demonstrates how he has been traumatized and contains all of his emotions within him and only with help from his mother will these emotions be let out.

Summary: After twelve years of marriage with an abusive spouse, Frances Bennedeto finally realizes that she must find a way out of her tortured life. Along with the help of a battered women agency, Frances escapes with her son Robert to Florida in order to protect themselves and start a new life. In order to avoid her husband, the agency sets up completely alternative personas for them. However, Frances still lives in constant fear that her husband is tracking her down and may at any time jeopardize her, or more importantly, her son's lives.

Most interesting or thoughtprovoking aspect of the book: This book effectively demonstrates how just one person can cause someone's life to be completely reinvented. The fear that Frances's husband would attack them forced Robert and Frances to make new identities for themselves. Additionally, It took so much effort in order to maintain these identities. Frances and her son had to be cautious about everything they would say, fearing that their true selves would be exposed.

Rating & opinion: 4. The plot of this story was very intriguing and it was not difficult to read. Although, transitions between Frances's old and new life were not smooth.

Title: Rescue at Engine 32
Author: Jessica Locke
Best Line: pg 143 " I headed back up the street, tears still streaming down my face, but I didn't care. I was whole. I was real. I wasn't hiding anything anymore."

I chose this passage because, it was when Jessica realized how far she had come emotionally since she started working at the Firehouse

Summary: This book is about Jessica Locke, it is about her journey through life. She is a massage therapist, and she does the Alexander Technique which is a type of healing. Jessica lived a childhood of poverty and around a family that did not care. When she got older she lived in fear and never left her house unless she had to. When 9/11 happened something inside of her and she decided to leave her house and take a train to New York to see Ground Zero. From there she starts to work at a firehouse and she helps to heal the fire fighters who where in 9/11. This book is about her progress and the huge commitment she took when she adopted the firehouse, and about how much she has done to help these men.

Most Interesting part of book: I personally found the whole book interesting. Every line was thought provoking and I learned a lot about myself while reading this book.

Rating: I personally thought this was an amazing book. Maybe i just thought that because i know this women. he has been a part of my life for 7 years. And has helped me a great deal. But i definitely think that this book talks about something very different and more meaningful than most books. I give it a 5

Title: The Memory Keeper's Daughter

Author: Kim Edwards

Best Line: "Creamy white vernix whorled in her delicate skin, and she was slippery with amniotic fluid and traces of blood. The blue eyes were cloudy, the hair jet black, but her barely noticed all of this. What he was looking at were the unmistakable features, the eyes turned up as if with laughter, the epicanthal fold across their lids, the flattened nose. A classic case, he remembered his professor saying...years ago. A mongoloid. Do you know what that means? (16)

I chose this passage because it was the moment when David Henry realized that his baby girl had Down Syndrome. The way he reacts in this moment is so important to how the story turns outs. This passage also shows how during the time period of the book people with Down Syndrome were treated unfairly and called hurtful names.

Summary: Norah Henry goes into labor in the winter of 1964 and her husband David Henry and his nurse Caroline help with the delivery. Their baby boy, Paul is born perfectly healthy and then David get a surprise, Norah was pregnant with twins. However the baby girl has Down Syndrome and David tells Caroline to take the child away. He tells his wife their baby girl Phoebe has died. Norah struggles with this idea for many years causing her marriage to weaken and her life to change drastically forever.

Most interesting and thought provoking aspect of the book: When Caroline leaves David's office and drives to the asylum. Then when she realizes how horrible the asylum is and she walks right out with Phoebe and speeds away in her car. I thought this was very interesting because it shows Caroline being very spontaneous since she is taking Phoebe with her when she have no plan of how to raise her. This shows a side of Caroline that is not really seen that much in the book and that really interested me.

Rating and Opinion: I would rate this book a 5 because it is truly something that everyone must read. The story is very different and unique and the way that Edwards tells the story from what Paul and Phoebe are going through makes it very interesting.

Title: Fallen Angels
Author: Walter Dean Myers
Best line: Pg.20, "I weight a hundred and forty. Whatever you weigh, thats how many you got to kill to leave early".
I chose this qoute because it shows how humor is used throughout this book. Though he is very scared about being sent to war, Pewee makes rediclous things up to make people think more of him.
Summary: The book, Fallen Angels, by Walter Dean Myers, is about a man named Richie Perry who is sent to fight in the Vietnam war. Richie is terrified when he first arrives in Vietnam. He quickly makes freinds with the men in his unit. Perry first gets a taste of war, when soon after he arrives in vietnam, a man in his unit steps on a mine and is killed. This book tells about Richie Perry's strugles and the freinships he makes while at war in Vietnam.

I responded to Pewee alot while reading this book. This is because though he comes across as a tough, in your face guy, he is really a caring, nice person,

I give this book a five out of five because it is a very interesting book, and it is fastpaced and exiting.

best line: pg.89 "If dylan and I had met by chatting on the net and I hadn't seen his lips, when he does that sexy dance... then I mite as well confess: I think I would have liked him less."

reading this line it made me think about what kind of girl the main character realy was and it shows that she is still adolescent and naive.

sumary:
theres a teenage girl named, Sophie and this entire book is about her growing up and falling in "love" multible times. This book shows that adolescent teenagers go through alot of difficult confusing times, and its hard for body and heart to agree on things.

rating and opinion: id give it a 8 out of 10 becuase not only is this a book i can relate to , but most girls can around that age ( 13- 16). i also like how its written, which is in all poem and short, isterious-like. as if you have to fill in the pieces she leaves out to understand what shes saying. the only thing i disslike about this book it that it sometimes felt unreal i couild not relate or enjoy reading beucase it seemed too fake.

Title: The Amber Spyglass

Author: Philp Pullman

Best Line: (Page 445)- “ No, he said, memory’s a poor thing to have. It’s your own real hair and mouth and arms and eyes and hands I want so much. Oh, Lyra, I wish this night would never end! If only we could stay here like this, and the world could stop turning, and everyone else could fall asleep… Everyone except us! And you and I could live here forever and just love each other.” I have chosen this passage because they grew from being friends to lovers. It also shows that even though they both they both lost their parents, they still love each other.

Summary: Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry the main protagonists travel to the world of the dead to find Will’s father John, and Lyra’s best friend, Roger. Lyra feels guilty and responsible for the death of Roger. There is a plot between good and evil meaning Lord Asriel ( Lyra’s father), and the Magisterium (the church). A Scientist named Mary Malone who knew both Will and Lyra from Will’s world travels though a hole that leads into another world. She creates the Amber Spyglass that allows her to see dust (dark matter).

The most interesting thing in the book was the many worlds, that they were able to travel in, by using the subtle knife.

Rating and Opinon: 4- It is a good book, because there is a lot action and adventure. The Amber Spyglass is the third book in a trilogy called His Dark Materials. It shows two people that gone on a journey together to do good. There are some consequences, sacrifices, and violence in the book. Both of the main characters Lyra and Will learn about growing up and the meaning of true love. I would recommand this book, but one really needs to read the first two books in the series.

Best Line: Page 4, “she lifted the stake high in the air and brought it down, splitting his head like a watermelon. His pate opened, his eyes grew wide, and his mouth froze into an O. He fell to his knees and then toppled forward into the straw.
I chose this passage because in the beginning it forces the reader to visualize a human being the murderer however; by the end of the book a twist shatters that visualization.

Summary: Jacob, a soon to be vet, on his last day of his final exams is told of his parents fatal demise, sending him out on his own with no family, money, or place to stay. On the same day, walking along the railroads near his school, impulsively hops a moving train which would soon turn out to be the love filled, action packed, exhilarating adventure he needed to forget his recent past.
The train ended up being the Benzini Bros Most Spectacular Show On Earth.
Jacob whom is offered a job on the show as a vet is soon joined by the schizophrenic August who is also in love with Marlena the love of Jacobs life. The only problem is she is already married to August. When Marlenas life is threatened by not only August but also Uncle Al, the owner of the Benzini Bros Most Spectacular Show On Earth, Jacob has to decide whose life is more important, his or hers, if he is to protect Marlena.

Rating and Opinion: I give the book a 10 and I would give it a higher rating if available. The book is an inspiring, action packed, twisted, and sensual book with a twist not even the most educated book interpreter could predict!

When Bella first laid eyes on Edward Cullen and siblings in the school cafeteria, she knew something was different with them. Through out the book Bella tries to figure out what Edwards secret is. Like, Why is he always missing school? Why does he act so strange?

Title: Animal Farm

Author: George Orwell

Best Line: (29)"Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself."

Summary: Mr. Jones, a farmer, is overthrown by mistreated animals. The animals rebel, and start up their own society. The animals strive for a better society, but they soon learn out that the only way to raise a successful society is to revert back to their own ways. Their ideologies, are no better, then what they once rebelled against.

Throughout the book there are a lot of minute changes. The animals have many various views, and different animals each stand for something else. This is evident today, with the working class, the rich, and the poor, with everything in between. Thought the book all the animals morph into something bigger then before. They start to become what they once hated, like the humans. "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." This idea what they once stood up for has severely changed throughout the book, as they learn how hard it really is to maintain a society.

Rating: I would give this book a 5. Everyone should read this book, not only is it interesting but it almost every aspect of the book relates to politics, and how the world is run.

Title: Eclipse

Author:Stephanie Meyer

Best Line: "We're Doing this your way. Because my way doesn't work. I call you stubborn, but look at what I've done. I've clung with such idiotic obstinacy to my idea of what's best for you, though it's only hurt you. Hurt you so deeply, time and time again. I don;t trust myself anymore. You can have happiness your way. My way is always wrong."

Summary: The third book in the Twilight saga brings Edward, the immortal "vegetarian" vampire, and Bella, the girl from Phoenix, to have to make major decisions about the future. When Bella learns that her best friend Jacob is in love with her, Bella must choose between immortal life, or living her human life to the fullest.

Bella's choice between immortal life and human life made me think what I would do in that situation. It brings me to think, if you could live forever what would you do when everyone you knew died. There would have to be a very strong reason to live forever.

Rating & opinion: I would give this book 5 starts because it is very intriguing and combines drama, humor, and romance.

Title: "Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde"

Author: Robert Louis Stevenson

Best Line: "I, for my part from the nature of life, advanced infallibly in one direction and in one direction only. It was on the moral side, and in my own person, that I learned to recognize the thorough and primitive duality of man; I saw that, of the two natures that contended in the field of my consciousness, even if I could rightly be said to be either, it was only because I was radically both;" (pg. 91)

I chose this passage because it explains why Dr. Jekyll has created his alter-ego Mr. Hyde. It is also a passage that many can relate to.

Summary: In the story of "Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde", a scientist named Dr.Jekyll is unsure of who he really is. He creates an experiment that allows him to become another person that is the opposite of who he is; Mr.Hyde. Dr.Jekyll's experiment makes him pure evil and even leads him to murder. His colleagues do not know that Jekyll becomes another person and throughout the story they try to find out the link between Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde.

Most interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book: The storyline of a split personality is an interesting topic itself. However, in this novel it is taken to the extreme by physically transforming Dr.Jekyll into a different person.

Rating & opinion: I would give this book a 5. Although it's writing is dated, it is still an incredibly interesting book that relates to almost everyone of it's readers.

Title: Eclipse

Author: Stephenie Meyer

Best Line: And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.

I chose this line because it represents the entire Twilight Saga. How Edward is so dangerous and deadly but Bella is feeble and weak. It blends nicely with the whole "forbidden fruit" vibe you get while reading it.

Summary: Eclipse is a continuation of Twilight and New Moon that prepares you for the grand finale (Breaking Dawn). Bella Swan, a young teen, is madly in love with vampire, Edward Cullen and goes through her senior year of high school in adventures that never end. She falls in love with her best friend Jacob Black, a werewolf, and her life plunges her into a spiral of confusion.

Most interesting or thoughtprovoking aspect of the book: This book always has you asking "what"s gonna happen next?!" The entire time Bella was understanding her love for Jacob i was constantly going back and forth on whether or not i thought she would leave Edward.

Rating & opinion: I give this book a 5 because it was a fabulous summer read and it had you on your toes the entire time. Eclipse is definitely a must read.

Title: “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress”

Author: Dai Sijie

Best Line: Page 184, “She said she had learnt one thing from Balzac: that a woman’s beauty is a treasure beyond price.”
I chose this sentence because every time I read it, I think about the meaning of is tale. Dai Sijie concluded his book by writing a moral for his impressive tale on the last sentence, which was supposed to show the meaning of the tale and its significance.

Summary: Two wretched, rich city boys - Luo and Ma - are exiled for their crime of finishing high school to a remote mountain village on the fictional mountain Phoenix of the Sky. There, they are re-educated by a lot of hard work and peasant living during the height of China’s Cultural Revolution in 1971. They meet the Little Seamstress, the daughter of a famous local tailor, and they also discover a hidden collection of Western classics in Chinese translation. While Luo and Ma flirt with the Seamstress and secretly borrow and thoroughly read these prohibited books, they find a way out of their dreadful, exhausting daily life.

Most interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book: The first book Luo and Ma obtain, is a book written by Balzac that leads to a sudden change in their lives. They find transit from their grim surroundings to worlds they never imagined. After that, they are both extremely excited for more thought provoking Western classics.

Rating & opinion: I give this book a 5, since it is a meaningful, romantic tale that makes you think about many things, such as Chinese culture and mind.

Summary: Jean Stevenson, who is known as "Stevie", is an African American that lives in a racist Chicago town during the 1970s. She is the first one in her family that is able to go to collage. There, Stevie is introduced to many new things that weren't in her small town back at home. Caught up in her college experience, Stevie soon finds out that her grandmother back home is sick, and remembers the that life she had there. The book is filled with Stevie discovering what life she wants and what kind of person she truly is.

Most interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book: The most interesting part of the book is how Stevie's character changes throughout the book. At first, she is innocent and naive, but then Stevie turns into a fearless girl who tries many new things. College changes Stevie's personality a lot, and when she is faced with the bad news from home, she realizes how much she has actually changed as a person.

Rating and opinion: I would rate this book a 4. It was very fascinating and kept me interested, but it wasn't the best book I have ever read.

Reviewer and favorites: Blair Borden. I also liked "Catcher in the Rye" and "Coffee Will Make You Black", which was the first book in April Sinclair’s series.

Title: Eclipse

Author: Stephenie Meyer

Best Line:
"It's a good thing you're bulletproof." I sighed. "I'm going to need that ring. It's time to tell Charlie." (Page 620)

I thought this line was really funny. Bella was so worried about the idea of marriage the whole book, but towards the end she was fine with it. She also had finally decided to tell Charlie (her father) that she was getting married.

Summary:
Eclipse is the 3rd book of the Twilight series. In this book, Edward and Bella become closer than before. Jacob becomes even more jealous of Edward also. This puts Bella in a very awkward position in choosing between her true love and her best friend, who was there for her through hard times. Bella goes back and forth trying to decide what is right.

Bella also has to face the idea that someone is out to kill her. She becomes very worried for, not her safety, but the safety of everyone around her who is ready to fight. She doesn’t want Jacob and his pack to get hurt or Edward and his family.

Most interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book:
The most thought provoking part of this book for me was how Bella was put in the middle of two people who she really loved. Jacob was a friend who she later grew feelings for and Edward was the first person she ever really loved. Jacob could offer her a life with children and the thought of growing old together. While Edward, on the other hand, could offer her centuries of life together. She knew that she loved Edward more than anything and would do anything for him, but Jacob was always in the back of her mind.

Rating & opinion:
I would have to give this book a
5. This series is a modern day Romeo and Juliet, but with vampires. Throughout this series you see how love is the greatest thing of all and no matter what difficulties there are, love will always overcome those difficulties.

Title: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Author: J.K. Rowling

Best Line: "Does anyone really know what You-Know-Who would or wouldn't do?"

Summary: A wonderful tale that speaks of friendship, love, good and bad. This Story takes you to a magical world filled with many wonders and fantasy. However there is an evil afoot, an dark/evil wizard named Lord Voldemort/Tom Marvolo Riddle who died and came back to life has started a war and the only way to end it is to have harry potter kill him like he did as a baby. Now harry is 16 and discovering more about the evil from his past and the way to use it to heal the future. The Fate of the world rests in this teenagers hands.

How can fred and george make total fun of Lord Voldemort and his death eater followers without getting targeted or threatened or something? for example they painted on the front of their store "Why Are You Worrying About You-Know-Who?
You SHOULD Be Worrying About
U-NO-POO --
the Constipation Sensation That's Gripping the Nation!" hahahahahaha

Rating & opinion: I give the book a 5. It was a total success because it is an intense and extremely interesting story, full of fiction and fantasy but you can also relate to it on a personal level as well.

Title: Notes from my travels

Author: Angelina Jolie

Best Line: "...an African man wearing a nice blue suit and a warm smile asked me if i was a journalist. i said, "No, just and American who wants to learn about Africa." He said, "Good!" (5)

I chose this passage because many people aren't aware of what is going on in different parts of the world and to have someone who people idolize go and see what is happening is a good start.

Summary: This book is a diary written by Angelina Jolie and her experiences with going to remote places to learn about what people have to go through in order to survive.

Most interesting or thoughtprovoking aspect of the book: In one of her entries Jolie describes an eight year old girl who witnessed her parents and older brother being brutally killed, but even at such a young age she managed to escape with her baby brother. Although she is relitivily save at the camp, she has to watch her baby brother die from diseases and malnourishment.

Rating & opinion: 4, this book is good if your interested in what is happening and what people everyday have to go through and it gives a first person view of it, instead of a book full of facts.

Reviewer and favorites: Christina Wu, I also liked Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk and Catalyst by Laurie Halse Anderson.

“Inside sat a young chimpanzee, about the size of a four year old child. The chimps face was flatter than usual, and the skin was pale, but it was clearly a chimp. “Hello Dave” Rovak said. “Hello” the chimp said. His voice was raspy. He turned to Henry. “Are you my mother?” he said.

This story is a conglomeration of plots that all deal with the developing order of laws and ethics concerning genetic engineering. The story involves talking birds and monkeys but also accused criminals of Rape and murder who are all linked together. The reason these things are all linked together is through a new unethical bio engineering company that seems to avoid the law.

This story made me think a lot about the developing world we live in today. At one point in the story, a company was going to put advertising symbols on animals to increase buissness. It made me realize how we are not that far away from that happening, and this book was a great way to simulate a natural world being recreated through genetic testing.

4- Because of its original and thought provoking ideas, yet lacking a substantial plot and too many stories.

Jurassic Park and also PREY, both written by Michael Crichton

Title: Eclipse

Author: Stephenie Meyer

Best Line: "Here's the thing... I've already gone crazy once. I know what my limits are." — Bella Swan

Summary: Eclipse is the third book in the Twilight saga. It continues the story of Bella Swan, a human girl, with her vampire love, Edward Cullen, and her best friend, Jacob Black, who is a werewolf, who is also in love with Bella. Werewolves and vampires are enemies, but because of Bella being a “danger magnet” they begin to work together, trust each other, and work on the same team as the vampires, in order to keep to keep her, and everyone around her safe. There are unsolved murders in Seattle, Washington, not far from where Bella lives. These murders turned out to be newborn vampires, which are the most dangerous monsters in the world. Victoria is there leader, which her one main goal to kill Bella.

Most interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book: The most interesting thought about the book is the love between Edward and Bella. They never think that they are good enough for each other, and also, never consider each other’s thoughts. They do what they think is better for one another.

Rating & opinion: 5
There is always something going on, always a conflict. You’re always on the edge.

Title: Twilight

Author: Stephenie Meyer

Best Line: “ About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him- and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be- that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.” (Page 195)-Bella Swan.

Summary: Twilight is the first book in the Twilight saga. The book is about a girl named Bella Swan who moves from Phoenix, Arizona where she lived with her mother to a small rainy town called Forks, Washington to live with her dad. She meets this guy named Edward Cullen, who is a vampire and only drinks the blood of animals instead of humans. Their relationship was thrown into chaos when a coven of three vampires comes into Forks and James, who is a vampire that drinks on human blood is trying to track Bella down and kill her for sport. Edward and his family are trying to save Bella from James.

Most Interesting or thought provoking aspect of the book: The most interesting thought in the book is the romantic relationship between Bella and Edward. Edward would do anything to protect Bella from James and any other kind of harm. Bella would also do anything to protect Edward also, and she would scarifies her life to become a vampire and to be together forever. Even Though, Edward doesn’t want Bella to be a monster like him, and he wants her to move on with her life.

Rating and Opinion: 5- This is such an excellent book., because there is a lot of action, adventure and romance. There are a lot of interesting events that occur in this book.

Reviewer and favorites: Melissa Miller. My favorite books are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling, The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, and In the Land of White Death by Valerian Albanov
